Intangibility (Power)

Also Called

  • Insubstantiality
  • Phasing

Capabilities

User is able to move through objects and ignore most physical effects in their way, exact means how this is done vary between slipping partially into other dimensions, being able to make their own atoms move between other atoms, being non-physical being of energy, etc. Regardless the user is able to ignore most attacks, physical dangers and gravity.

Applications

  • Air Walking/Water Walking
  • Ignore physical objects, whether solid, liquid or gas.
  • Ignore most forms of energy (heat/cold, electricity, etc.).
  • Ignore gravity.
  • Levitation
  • Physical Disruption
  • Spatial Phasing

Variations

  • Amalgamation: user merges into the object and emerges from the other side.
    • Solid Merging
  • Cartoon Physics: user becomes a drawing on a wall or jump out of the second dimension.
  • Density Manipulation: user reduces their density to allow them go through solid objects, or vice versa.
  • Elemental Intangibility: user takes on the forms of certain elements (fire, water, energy, etc.) to allow all attacks to simply pass through them.
  • Human Hive: user's body, being an aggregate of tiny forms such as insects, allows attacks to pass right through them.
  • Non-Corporeal Form: the user is untouchable.
  • Spatial Mimicry: user folds the space around for similar effect.
  • Speed Force: users molecules move fast enough that they become intangible.
  • Spirit Physiology: user becomes untouchable, and pass through solids.

Limitations

  • May need to hold their breath while inside solid objects.
  • Some materials/effects may be un-passable.
  • May be affected by energy.
  • Users may activate this power accidentally.
  • Some users may be limited in terms of effect (some may only be able to allow physical attacks to phase through their bodies, for example).

Definition for Marvel Comics

This is a list of fictional characters with the power to enter a state in which they can pass through solid matter without harm. This process can also be called phasing. Characters with this ability often use it to avoid damage since the attack will pass through.
To put it simply, it is the ability to "go through walls".
Intangibility is often done by passing their atoms between the spaces of other particles in the surface they are "going through".

Definition for Wildstorm Comics

Heroes Universe

ntangibility (also refered to as phasing) is the psionic ability to pass ghost-like through solid objects. Possessors of this ability can render their entire bodies intangible, but also individual body parts such as arms. Possessors remain visible while using this ability. Possessors have not been shown to pass through floors.
It appears that when a possessor stops using his ability while still inside something, the material that was previously there either disappears or is displaced. e.g. when D.L. does this in Linderman's head, killing him.
